And For Contrast…

Will everyone stop reblogging that makeout photo? It’s just some drunk assholes kissing on the ground.

I agree. It’s definitely NOT the best photo of the riot. There is no good photo of the riot and people making out on the ground is NOT the best thing or contribution to society from Canucks fans. It’s rubbish! People really don’t have their priorities straight.

The other photo is still a good photo.
Like, that photo of the girl running away from napalm with her clothes blasted off in ‘Nam is a good photo. The photo of monk self-immolating himself is a good photo.
You can take pictures of bad situations and the PHOTO IS STILL GOOD.

It’s neither a good situation nor a good photo. A good photo is more than the lighting, the composition and the context. A good photo carries meaning, questions life, raises philosophy. This is just a photograph of a couple of horny, drunk kids making out amidst a crowd of violence. I don’t know if they were spurred on by the rioting or if they were overcome with some other emotion, but being behind the lines, defying the police by making out on the ground is pretty meaningless to me. It’s not comparable to a man kissing his dying wife on the street, it’s not comparable to scenes of social injustice, it’s not comparable to many of the other more news-worthy questions about the riots.
